Washington, DC – Today, Representatives Jerrold Nadler, Daniel Goldman, and Jamie Raskin introduced a resolution in response to the alarming rise of antisemitism in the United States. The resolution details the dramatic increase in antisemitic hate crimes over the last few years, particularly following the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas. It also notes the acute rise of antisemitism on college and university campuses.
With this resolution, the Members commit to work to implement the U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism. They call for bipartisan collaboration and a comprehensive, all-of-government response to combat antisemitism in the United States, including, for example, increasing funding for the Nonprofit Security Grant Program. Additionally, Congress must provide robust funding for the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights to help enforce Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and help protect Jewish students from antisemitism. As the resolution makes clear, combating antisemitism is essential to the broader fight against all forms of hatred and to the defense of our democracy.
“Surging global antisemitism—from the terrorist deeds of Hamas to the shocking propaganda of Elon Musk to the violence of extremist white supremacy—is the gateway to destruction of liberal democracy,” said Congressman Jamie Raskin. “Opposing antisemitism in all its forms is part of the responsibility of serious democratic citizenship. I’m proud to partner with Representatives Nadler and Goldman to advocate for the robust implementation of comprehensive strategies to stop antisemitism and violence as outlined in the Biden-Harris National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism.”
"All across our country, we are seeing an alarming rise in antisemitic hate following Hamas' October 7 assault on Israel," said Congressman Jerrold Nadler. "We cannot allow this to become our new normal, as virulent hatred spreads through college and university campuses, on social media, and in our neighborhoods. With this resolution, Representatives Goldman, Raskin, and I are leading our colleagues in Congress to commit to implementing the U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism, an essential step to countering this dangerous trend."
“In the aftermath of Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel on October 7, already rising rates of antisemitism across the country have surged,” said Congressman Dan Goldman. “The normalization of antisemitism on our college campuses, on social media, and in our communities is reprehensible and unacceptable. This dangerous increase in anti-Jewish hate requires a comprehensive, bipartisan response. I am proud to join Congressman Nadler and Congressman Raskin in calling for the implementation of President Biden’s National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism, to make clear that hate of any kind has no place in the United States.”
