(WASHINGTON, DC.) – Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) will serve as Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties in the 116th Congress as he continues his service on the House Judiciary Committee in his second Term. Working under Subcommittee Chairman Steve Cohen (TN-09), Raskin will help steer the Subcommittee, whose jurisdiction includes all matters concerning the U.S. Constitution, including Amendments and constitutional rights and liberties.

“I’m honored to become Vice Chair of this important Judiciary Subcommittee,” Raskin said. “I plan to champion the Constitution and the Bill of Rights every day and vigilantly defend the liberties of the people. I’m also looking forward to working with an excellent team of fellow Subcommittee Members.”

Members of the Judiciary Committee serving on the Constitution Subcommittee include: Reps. Eric Swalwell (CA-15), Mary Gay Scanlon (PA-5), Madeleine Dean (PA-4), Sylvia Garcia (TX-29), Veronica Escobar (TX-16), and Sheila Jackson Lee (TX-18).

Raskin has been a professor of constitutional law for more than a quarter-century at American University’s Washington College of Law and is the author of several books and dozens of law review articles in the fields of constitutional law, civil rights, civil liberties and voting rights.    

Raskin will also be a member of the Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial, and Administrative Law, led by Chairman David Cicilline (RI-1). The Subcommittee has jurisdiction over bankruptcy judgeships, administrative law, independent counsel, state taxation affecting interstate commerce, interstate compacts, and antitrust matters.
