ROCKVILLE, M.D. – This year, Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) launched a weekly video series featuring Marylanders across the 8th District who are acting creatively and bravely to help others through the coronavirus crisis. Today, he honors the 40 constituents that he recognized as 2020 Local Heroes over the course of the year. He is also proud to announce the Local Hero of the Year: everyone in the 8th District and beyond for their exemplary resilience and solidarity in a challenging year.
Since April 2020, Rep. Raskin has highlighted 8th District Local Heroes every week for their critical efforts to support Maryland during this time of public health crisis and upheaval. He has interviewed a wide range of community members, including medical professionals; first responders; frontline workers such as letter carriers, grocery store clerks, and bus drivers; small business owners and more. “I’m grateful beyond measure to be representing the remarkable people of Montgomery, Frederick and Carroll Counties who we have honored this year,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin. “From doctors and nurses to frontline workers and teachers, from firefighters and postal personnel to students and champions of human rights, my constituents have shown great vision, unyielding service and exemplary dedication to our community and nation in this year of trial and dread. Whether tending to sick patients through the night, delivering food to the hungry or standing up against corruption and tyranny, these local heroes have helped us surpass the challenges of COVID-19 in extraordinary ways. I look forward to continuing this video series in 2021 and working with our people to see our country and state through the end of the pandemic.”
As the nation and the Administration carry the fight against the coronavirus into the new year, Rep. Raskin will continue recognizing and honoring 8th District Local Heroes in 2021. To nominate a Local Hero, click here.
