WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Congressman Jamie Raskin (all D-Md.), announced $2,565,447 in federal funding for the National Association of Community Health Centers headquartered in Bethesda, Md.

“Community health centers (CHCs) are on the frontlines of our COVID-19 response, serving as a critical lifeline for residents in medically underserved communities throughout Maryland and the nation,” Senator Cardin said. “The National Association of Community Health Centers is a Maryland-based organization fighting for resources for CHCs, medical workers and vulnerable communities nationwide. This funding will help them continue their work to ensure CHCs are equipped to meet the demands of this public health crisis while they continue to provide quality, affordable care to patients of all backgrounds and socioeconomic status.”

“Community health centers are a vital component of our health care safety net and are on the front lines of our nation’s response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. These federal funds will help provide high-quality, community-based health services to families and individuals who too often face barriers to obtaining care. We will continue working to deliver federal resources to aid in the response to this crisis,” said Senator Van Hollen.

“I’m proud that the National Association of Community Health Centers is headquartered in my District and thrilled to join my Maryland colleagues in announcing more than $2.5 million in federal funding to bolster our nation’s CHCs during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Rep. Raskin.

This funding comes through the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).  In April 2020, the delegation also announced $15.6 million in federal funds through the CARES Act to support Maryland’s community health centers in responding to COVID-19.
