(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) released the following statement regarding today’s House floor vote on the Continuing Resolution (CR):
“The Trump Shutdown should never have happened. Lurching from crisis to crisis and continuing resolution to continuing resolution is no way to run the government. Congress has a constitutional responsibility to pass an annual budget for the American people and to meet the planning and operational needs of every federal agency. That is what we are fighting for in the House of Representatives, not an endless series of short-term gimmicks.
“I don’t know precisely what promises have been made in the Senate, but in the House, there have been no promises made to us to pass a real budget for the American people—much less to provide long-term funding for America’s community health centers or to resolve the situation of the 800,000 DREAMers who are twisting in the wind as the GOP leadership plays political games.
“I remain steadfast in my determination that federal workers not lose a penny of their salaries because of the incompetence of the Trump Administration, which is why I’m an original cosponsor of bipartisan legislation to guarantee back pay to furloughed federal workers. I will do everything in my power to see that our commitments to the federal workforce and federal contractors are met and that we pass a meaningful and reliable budget for the American people.”
Congressman Jamie Raskin represents Maryland’s 8th Congressional District, which includes Montgomery, Frederick, and Carroll counties. He is the Vice Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, a Senior Democratic Whip, and Freshman Representative to the House Democratic Steering & Policy Committee. He also serves on the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee and the Committee on House Administration.
