(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) released the following statement regarding the Supreme Court's ruling in Benisek v. Lamone today:

"In a predictable 5-4 result, the conservative majority on the Roberts Court threw up its hands and declared gerrymandering a non-justiciable political question, creating delight among Republican state legislators who have perfected the art of redistricting for the goal of destroying the political opposition. This malign neglect of essential democratic values means the Senate must immediately take up H.R. 1 and specifically the anti-gerrymander provisions. The House has voted to abolish gerrymandering in U.S. House races by compelling the use of independent and nonpartisan expert redistricting panels in every state. This is going to be the road forward."
