Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) was elected Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee for the 119th Congress. He first received the endorsement of House Democrats’ Steering and Policy Committee and was then elected by unanimous vote of the House Democratic Caucus.
“I am honored that my colleagues have placed their faith in me to lead Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee in the 119th Congress,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin. “I’m ready to mobilize our extraordinary members of the Judiciary Committee to defend American freedom, democratic institutions and the rule of law.”
“As Democrats, our historic assignment now is to stand in the breach to advance the legislation, amendments and arguments that will block a further descent into MAGA chaos. Democrats need to maintain the integrity of our Constitutional order to advance a positive agenda for the common good.” Rep. Raskin continued.
“I want to reiterate my profound admiration for my predecessor, Rep. Jerry Nadler, for his extraordinary Committee and Caucus leadership, and thank him for his endorsement of my candidacy,” added Rep. Raskin. “He is a great lawyer, patriot and public servant, and I look forward to working with him in all the battles ahead.”
Rep. Raskin served on the House Judiciary Committee for six years, including as the Vice Ranking Member in the 115th Congress.
In the 118th Congress, Rep. Raskin served as Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, leading opposition to Chair Comer and the House GOP’s impeachment drive against President Joe Biden. He also served as the lead House impeachment manager in the second impeachment trial of Donald Trump and on the bipartisan Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol.
