WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08), a Member of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, released the following statement in response to President Trump's abrupt decision to call off negotiations for coronavirus relief legislation until after the November election:
“Now is not the time to pull the plug on the American people and our battered states and communities, which are suffering under this nightmarish plague and are desperate for help from our government.
“It seems to me perverse that a President who pays dirt in taxes and takes advantage of millions of dollars in free federal medical assistance for his own personal use would deny desperately needed help to the rest of the people of the country.
“We will continue to fight hard for getting help to our people, tens of millions of unemployed Americans, small businesses, the states and localities, our frontline workers, our postal workers, our scientists, researchers, and doctors and nurses in the thick of the fight against COVID-19.
“The President once said this was a war against COVID-19, and he has just gone completely AWOL. We are here if the President ever wants to rejoin the fight.”
