WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) honored 19 MD-08 highschoolers for receiving 21 appointment offers to U.S. Service Academies. Rep. Raskin nominated each student based on their strong academic and extracurricular backgrounds as well as their leadership qualities.

Across America, Members of Congress can nominate young people from their congressional districts to receive appointments to U.S. Service Academies, including the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Military Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Their education prepares them for service as military officers upon graduation.

This is one of the largest appointment classes of any congressional district in the nation, reflecting the talented applicants from MD-08.

“I nominated each of these young people from our community to U.S. Service Academies because of their superior qualifications and their strongly held belief in American democracy,” said Rep. Raskin. “I’m confident they will apply their knowledge and skills to help build a more perfect union and I’m thankful for their willingness to serve our country.”
