Rockville, MD — Today, Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-08) announced the kickoff of his annual Congressional Art Competition for Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District. This contest is a chance for MD-08’s high school students to submit an original piece of artwork to be exhibited at a showcase in Montgomery County. One winning submission will be displayed in the United States Capitol.
“I am always delighted by the outpouring of artistic talent from high school students in our district each year.” said Rep. Raskin. “As this new generation of artists emerges, I encourage all high schoolers enthusiastic about the visual arts to participate in the 2026 Congressional Art Competition.”
All high school students living in Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District are eligible and encouraged to participate. Entries must be submitted digitally via the online portal here no later than 11:59 PM on Monday, March 30, 2026. Each student is limited to one entry, which must be submitted with a completed Student Information & Release Form. The full list of submission guidelines can be found on Representative Raskin’s website here.
A panel of independent judges from the Eighth District will evaluate each entry and choose one first-place winner, whose work will hang in the U.S. Capitol the following year alongside winning pieces from other districts across America.
The winning piece, as well as a larger pool of honorees, will be displayed at VisArts (155 Gibbs Street, Rockville, MD 20850) from May 7 through May 11, 2026. Select runner-up pieces from the exhibition will be displayed in Representative Raskin’s District Office in Rockville. All pieces will be featured in Representative Raskin’s virtual art gallery to recognize every artist. You can view the 2025 virtual gallery here.
