(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D-Md.), together with U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), U.S. Representative John K. Delaney (D-Md.-06) and U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin (D-Md.-08), today announced the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) has approved Governor Hogan’s request for a physical disaster declaration in Frederick County following flooding that occurred between May 15-19, 2018.
The SBA disaster declaration allows businesses of all sizes, private non-profit organizations, homeowners, and renters to apply for SBA low-interest disaster loans. SBA disaster loans can be used to repair or replace the following items damaged or destroyed in a declared disaster: real estate, personal property, machinery and equipment, and inventory and business assets.
In addition to Frederick County residents, flooding victims in Carroll, Howard, Montgomery, and Washington counties are also eligible to apply. A separate request specifically covering the devastating late May flooding in Ellicott City is presently under consideration.
“It’s crucial that we’re providing Marylanders with the tools and the resources they need to rebuild. These funds will help our communities that have been devastated by recent flooding to repair infrastructure, businesses and homes,” the Members of Congress commented. “We hope residents will look into these options. Team Maryland will continue working to ensure that our state and local communities have what they need to fix the damage and prepare now to mitigate damage from future natural disasters.”
