Washington, DC – Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) released the following statement on the release of Edan Alexander from Hamas captivity:
“This is a joyous occasion for Edan Alexander’s family and loved ones and for the people of Israel. After 584 excruciating days, he is free from the brutal confines of Hamas captivity. My thoughts, my prayers and my solidarity are with Edan as he returns home, reunites with his family and friends and begins to recover from this ordeal.
“May Edan’s release bring a renewed sense of urgency and possibility to free all the remaining hostages, to end the bloodshed and humanitarian blockade in Gaza, and to reach a permanent ceasefire in this brutal conflict. We cannot rest until we end the vicious cycle of terror, war, dehumanization and suffering in the Middle East and establish a two-state solution to bring peace and security to all Israelis, all Palestinians and the broader region.”
