WASHINGTON, DC — On the four-year anniversary of the January 6, 2021 insurrection, Congress certified the results of the 2024 presidential election. Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) released the following statement:

“Today, the House of Representatives and the Senate convened in a constitutional joint session to perform our duty to certify the results of the presidential electoral college.

“We can feel pride that the Democrats acted as constitutional patriots and certified the winner in the Electoral College. We did not mobilize insurrectionary mob violence to promote a backstage political coup against the election based on coercive pressure against the Vice-President. There are no election deniers, no insurrectionists and no coup-plotters on our side of the aisle.

“Just as we hung tough for the Constitution today despite our own profound electoral disappointment, we are going to hang tough every single day for the Constitutional right to vote, women’s reproductive freedom, birthright citizenship, workers’ rights and consumer rights, and strong democracy against all MAGA attacks. We know that the MAGA coalition is already fraying, with nativist and racist forces sharply at odds with the billionaire broligarchs who want nothing more than cheap foreign labor. We will be there to stand up for the common good.”

Rep. Raskin is the Ranking Member of the Committee on the Judiciary. Previously, he was the Ranking Member of the Committee on Oversight and Accountability. He served as the lead impeachment manager in the second impeachment of Donald Trump and served on the bipartisan Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol.
