ROCKVILLE, MD — Today, Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) launched the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District. The Congressional Art Competition is a district-wide visual art contest for high school students. The annual competition invites high school artists to submit original artwork for Congressional recognition in the United States Capitol.

“I can think of no better platform to showcase the artistic skills of young people across Maryland’s Eighth than the Congressional Art Competition,” said Rep. Raskin. “I encourage all high school students in our district to share their artistic vision with us, and I am excited to get a glimpse into the future of American art. I thank all participants in advance for sharing their creativity with the people of the Eighth District.”

Judges from the Eighth District will evaluate entries and award one first-place winner, whose work will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year, alongside pieces from across the nation. Additionally, the winning entry and a larger pool of honorees from the district will be shown at local arts center VisArts (155 Gibbs Street, Rockville, MD 20850) from April 26, 2023 through May 7, 2023. A selection of runner-up pieces from the exhibition will be featured in Representative Raskin’s Rockville District Office. In honor of each of our student artists, all submissions will be featured in Representative Raskin’s virtual art gallery. You can view the 2022 virtual gallery here.

All high school students residing in Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District are eligible and encouraged to enter. All entries must be submitted digitally via the portal here no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 20. The online submission must include a single entry as well as a completed Student Information & Release Form. Complete submission guidelines can be found on Congressman Raskin’s website here.
