ROCKVILLE, MD — Today, Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) launched the 2022 Congressional Art Competition for Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District. The Congressional Art Competition is a district-wide visual art contest for high school students. The annual competition invites high school artists to submit original artwork for Congressional recognition in the United States Capitol.
“There is no better exhibition of the boundless artistic vision and virtuoso skills of our young people across Maryland’s Eighth than the submissions to the Congressional Art Competition,” said Rep. Raskin. “These pieces by high school students across our district offer an exciting glimpse into the future of American art. I thank all participants in advance for sharing their gifts with the people of the Eighth District.”
Judges from the Eighth District will evaluate entries and award one first-place winner, whose work will hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year, alongside pieces from across the nation. Additionally, the winning entry and a larger pool of honorees from the district will also earn a place in Representative Raskin’s virtual art gallery. You can view the 2021 virtual gallery here.
All high school students residing in Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District are eligible and encouraged to enter. All entries must be submitted digitally via the portal here no later than 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 11 to be considered for recognition. The online submission must include a single entry as well as a completed Student Information & Release Form. Complete submission guidelines can be found on Congressman Raskin’s website here.
