WASHINGTON, D.C. – Members of the Maryland congressional delegation, including U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen and Representatives Steny H. Hoyer, Dutch Ruppersberger, John Sarbanes, Kweisi Mfume, Anthony G. Brown, Jamie Raskin and David Trone (all D-Md.), today released the following statement following a virtual joint meeting with Maryland Secretary of Transportation Gregory Slater. Secretary Slater and other staff provided an update on state-level priorities as defined by Governor Larry Hogan.

“Over the past year, Team Maryland has worked to secure significant funding to address our state’s transportation services and priorities in major pieces of legislation that we’ve passed during the pandemic, including the CARES Act and the American Rescue Plan. With this emergency COVID-19 relief, transit systems were able to prevent insolvency, layoffs and devastating budget cuts so that they could continue operating for many of our workers who depend on these services daily,” the lawmakers said.

“We remain focused on finding additional ways to support Maryland’s transportation priorities through a holistic approach that prioritizes not only road-based projects, but also key investments in our public transit systems to revitalize and reconnect our communities, while building resilient infrastructure that meets the challenges of a changing climate. Meanwhile, our delegation will continue to urge state and local governments to consider environmental protection, equity and safety earlier in the planning processes for transportation projects.”
