WASHINGTON, D.C. -- House Oversight Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Subcommittee Chair Jamie Raskin (MD-08) today announced that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) will return as Subcommittee Vice Chair for the 117th Congress. The Members previously served as the respective Subcommittee Chair and Vice Chair in the 116th Congress.

Ocasio-Cortez will be returning as Vice Chair this Congress," said Chair Raskin. "Hard-working, eloquent beyond measure and passionately devoted to civil rights and civil liberties, AOC is an unyielding champion of our people and our Bill of Rights. I look forward to working with her to stop the infiltration of law enforcement by white supremacist groups and to restore the full spectrum of rights and liberties eroded under the Trump Administration.”

The Subcommittee on Civil Rights and Civil Liberties has oversight jurisdiction over issues related to civil rights, civil liberties and the equal protection of laws, including voting rights, freedom of religion, speech, press, and assembly; equal employment; nondisclosure agreements; and criminal justice reform policies; and legislative and oversight jurisdiction over the Census Bureau and the Census.
