(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) today joined Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC) Chair David N. Cicilline (RI-01) and 36 colleagues in urging stronger unemployment insurance in the next coronavirus supplement package to help affected workers make ends meet.

The Members wrote in a letter to House negotiators: “As states continue to respond to this crisis, they require additional federal support to alleviate pressure on their already strained resources. Strengthening the federal government’s share of unemployment insurance will allow these states to direct resources to the critical infrastructure necessary to respond to this pandemic.”

The Members requested that the next coronavirus response package:

  • Increases the current 50 percent federal share to 100 percent;
  • Extends unemployment insurance benefits to self-employed individuals; and
  • Provides a direct appropriation of federal funds to states to shore up state trust funds.
