(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Today, Democratic Members of Congress will hold a media availability after they tour Children’s National Medical Center and meet with patients and their families. More than half of the patients at Children’s National are on Medicaid.
The event coincides with the release of state-specific reports prepared by the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s Democratic staff, detailing the disastrous impact that Republican efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act and slash Medicaid funding would have on children with severe disabilities and special health care needs—44% of whom rely on Medicaid for their care. The Senate is slated to vote on the Republicans’ healthcare legislation as soon as this week.
Members will also meet with hospital administrators to learn how they care for this vulnerable population. The tour is closed press. Members will address the press immediately after the tour concludes.
