FREDERICK, MD – Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) announced today he will invite Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner as his virtual guest to President Biden’s 2022 State of the Union address. This March 1 address will be the president’s first State of the Union and his second speech to a joint session of Congress.

“Thanks to County Executive Jan Gardner’s leadership, our Frederick community has made extraordinary strides turning the corner on the COVID-19 pandemic, strengthening our local economies for working families and truly building back better,” said Rep. Raskin. “Marylanders thrive when our federal-local partnerships are strong. I’m committed to supporting County Executive Gardner’s work, and I will continue advocating for increased federal investment in infrastructure and improved social services across Frederick County.”

Jan Gardner was elected as Frederick County’s first County Executive in 2014, having previously served as County Commissioner for 12 years. She has spearheaded initiatives investing in education, creating jobs, benefiting seniors, serving community needs and more. Under her leadership, Frederick County has accelerated school construction, invested in urban planning, empowered a growing senior population and navigated the COVID-19 pandemic.

In conjunction with her virtual attendance of the State of the Union, County Executive Gardner will also join Rep. Raskin as a Local Hero on his weekly series and on a Facebook Live discussion on Tuesday, March 1. The Local Hero episode will be available on Rep.
