Washington, DC – Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) released the following statement on the Trump Administration’s announcement that it will slash an additional 10,000 jobs at the Department of Health and Human (HHS) and eliminate several key agencies and divisions, bringing the total rate of jobs lost under this Administration to 24 percent of the HHS workforce:

“President Donald Trump and Elon Musk continue to take a chainsaw not just to the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, but to the government itself. These layoffs mean that even more hardworking federal employees in Maryland’s Eighth Congressional District will lose their livelihoods and the nation will lose the benefit of their service. The result will be that quality health care will be less accessible for too many Americans, including those seeking care for mental health and substance use treatment. Our nation will be slower to respond to the spread of diseases and pandemics—threatening all of us.

“I am sick and tired of Trump and Musk telling the people I represent not to do their jobs. The people of the Eighth District research lifesaving treatments and cures. They help people in recovery from addiction. They make sure the food we eat and the prescriptions we take are safe.  And they develop the life-saving medicines that will defeat cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, and so many other ailments. I will keep standing up for the federal departments and workers hit by this wrecking crew that seeks to close, consolidate, and relocate our workplaces.”

Since the inauguration of President Donald Trump, Rep. Raskin has released numerous resources for communities targeted by the Trump-Vance Administration, including launching a webpage compiling information and services, convening webinars for federal workers, immigrants and LGBTQIA+ Americans, holding a telephone town hall for the Eighth Congressional District, and submitting a Privacy Act request to DOGE.
