(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) today wrote to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urging him to ensure the immediate and safe return of U.S. citizens who are stranded abroad as a result of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) travel restrictions.

Rep. Raskin wrote: “My office has been inundated with requests for assistance from constituents who are in Peru, Morocco, different places in Central America, and several other countries around the world. My constituents are unable to find flights home and unable to secure transportation due to local travel restrictions.”

Rep. Raskin continued: “Extraordinary times may require extraordinary measures. I urge you to consider any viable means – from working with commercial carriers and our international allies to using U.S. military aircraft or chartering private flights – to bring these stranded Americans home safely and quickly.
