After Disavowing Herd Immunity Before Congress, Azar Publicly Praised it as ‘Reinforcement’ of Administration’s Strategy
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, and Rep. Jamie Raskin sent a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar requesting that he clarify whether the Trump Administration is responding to the coronavirus crisis with a herd immunity “strategy”. Public health experts have warned this approach could lead to the death of more than two million Americans.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi today convened a press conference to introduce legislation establishing a Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of Office. The legislation, which is modeled on a bill introduced by Rep. Raskin in 2017, will enable Congress to ensure effective and uninterrupted leadership in the highest office in the Executive Branch of government by creating the body and process called for in Section 4 of the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Raskin’s bill has 38 cosponsors.

Raskin and David Trone, during a conference call yesterday again urged Maryland Secretary of Labor Tiffany Robinson to redouble the agency’s efforts to improve the expediency with which Marylanders’ claims for Unemployment Insurance (UI) are processed. Following up on their correspondence and conversations with state leaders earlier this summer, the congressional delegation also requested that the state provide a full and updated accounting on the numbers of unpaid and/or unresolved claims.
