(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congressman Jamie Raskin released the following statement commemorating Memorial Day on Monday, May 29, 2017:

This Memorial Day weekend, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in serving our country.

In the words of my Uncle Mel, who fought in World War II, ‘sometimes you have got to fight like hell to keep the peace.’ We owe our thanks to millions of men and women who fought to keep the peace and paid the ultimate price. Their courage, commitment, and extraordinary patriotism will not be forgotten.

I’m proud to represent Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC), which is in Bethesda and to be a member of the Congressional Military Mental Health Caucus. We owe it to America’s fallen soldiers to ensure that veterans and their families receive the high-quality health care, therapeutic services, retirement benefits, and economic opportunities that they have earned.

Today we renew our commitment to supporting all our nation’s veterans, servicemembers, and military families.”
