(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) announced today that his congressional office will host a district-wide Congressional App Challenge for middle and high school students, inviting them to learn how to code and create their own original software application, or “app”, for mobile, tablet, or computer devices on a platform of their choice.

Rep. Raskin strongly encourages students from across Maryland’s 8th District to participate. The Challenge is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirements, regardless of coding experience. Students must register for the Challenge by Tuesday, September 10, 2019 and must submit a video explaining their app and what they learned through the competition process by no later than 11:59 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019. Students may compete as individuals or in teams of up to tour, provided that at least two teammates live or attend school in the 8th District.

The app of the winning 8th District student or team will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year and featured on the U.S. House of Representatives website and the Congressional App Challenge website. Winning students are also invited to attend the #HouseofCode Capitol Hill Reception in Washington, D.C. and awarded $250 per winner in Amazon Web Services Credits.

The Congressional App Challenge’s mission is to inspire, include, and innovate efforts around STEM, coding, and computer science education. More information about the Challenge is available on the official website.
