(WASHINGTON, D.C.)—Today, Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) released the following statement after Secretary of Labor Alexander Acosta announced his resignation:

"About time. The American people reject a dual system of justice, one for the rich and one for everyone else. Rape and sexual abuse of minors are grave crimes, and the job of the US Attorney is not to give sweetheart deals to VIP predators so they can keep abusing children.”

On July 10, 2019, the Committee on Oversight and Reform invited Secretary Acosta to testify at a public hearing on July 23, 2019. Rather than testify, Secretary Acosta chose to resign.

In addition, Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings and Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Subcommittee Chairman Raskin joined Reps. Jackie Speier, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, and Lois Frankel in requesting a briefing from the Office of Professional Responsibility at the Department of Justice, which has been investigating Acosta’s conduct as United States Attorney.
